Your one stop shop for Legionella Risk Assessment and Legionella Legislation.
When carrying out a risk assessment we need to identify the hazard and then ways by which we can reduce the likelihood of said hazard occurring. This is known as the ‘risk’.
With water we are looking at the likelihood of legionella manifesting itself within the water system. A water system is where water enters a premise and is used within said premises. Assets are the items which use water within a system like a tap, sink, shower, evaporator, water cooling tower, point of use water heater or other. The list is very big. No two water systems are the same.
The risk of legionella occurring in any water system can be reduced to zero if managed properly but the first step is to carry out the risk assessment which will identify a management system to keep the risk at bay. It will take into account all the individual assets connected to the water system and an individual assessment will need to be carried out on every asset present which will include the pipework, storage tanks, thermal mixing valves, sentinels and intermediate taps as well as all other assets.
