HOW IT WORKS
TTL have developed a cost effective and simple way to test suspect material in a domestic or commercial property. Our test kits contain all the PPE, step by step instructions and asbestos waste disposal instructions you will need to allow you to carry out sampling safely and confidently in your own home or business premises.
Using the pre-paid envelope, the sample(s) are returned to us, and are analysed in our UKAS accredited laboratory.
You will receive a certificate of analysis 24-48 hours from receipt of delivery, which are emailed to your nominated email address. Once you receive your results, TTL will call you to discuss any issues you may have and guide you through further steps, if needed.
WHAT MATERIALS SHOULD I TEST?
If you need to test more than one material, or the material(s) you are concerned about aren’t listed, then get in touch! Our dedicated customer service team will be happy to assist.

Ceiling tiles and wall panels should be checked for existing damage as samples are more easily obtained from this type of location. Ensure any paper on both sides is included. Recommended size of sample 5cm2. |
A representative portion of the material should be taken for analysis. |
Due to the high density of the cement matrix, it is preferable to take a sample from an area of existing damage. Recommended size of sample 5cm2. |
Due to the irregular distribution of asbestos within this material (1 sample is recommended for each occurrence and each surface/pattern type). Samples taken from the same room can be placed in one bag to form a composite sample of the material. |
Using a sharp knife cut out small sections of floor tiles to full depth and taking care to obtain any adhesive material below (it is recommended 1 sample should be taken for each colour of floor tile). Asbestos content is low and any fibre release is likely to be negligible. |
WHY CHOOSE TTL?
Our highly trained and experienced staff hold all the qualifications and accreditations needed to ensure our services are provided in full accordance with current legislation and industry best practice. The Testing Lab PLC conduct UKAS ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Accredited Inspection and UKAS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Accredited Testing nationwide; on domestic, commercial, and industrial buildings.
All our samples are analysed in our purpose built, UKAS accredited laboratory by experienced BOHS P401 (or equivalent) qualified staff located at the National Control Centre in Doncaster. The pre-paid envelope included in your kit will return the sample(s) directly to our lab, which provides a fast and cost-effective turn around.
The Testing Lab PLC participates in the AIMS (Asbestos in Materials Scheme) proficiency testing run by the Health and Safety Laboratory, HSL.
Asbestos sampling as a career is dangerous as it can lead to unnecessary exposure unless professional training is given. TTL advise against using multiple home testing kits and for your safety and those who may be affected by your actions TTL provide full detail on how to use the home test kit as a one off. If in doubt you are urged to commission a survey by a qualified surveyor who is both experienced and insured.
For clarity, our home test kit contains the equipment which a trained surveyor may or may not need. Although TTL is an UKAS accredited organisation for asbestos surveys, the home test kit is outside of this accreditation, however, the results from the analytical lab are within our testing accreditation.
TTL accept no responsibility for individual performance or exposure during the use of the home test kit.
