UKAS accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 demonstrates that our asbestos testing laboratory operates to recognised international standards for competence, impartiality and consistent, reliable results.
For our clients, this means:
-
Your samples are analysed using validated methods aligned with HSE guidance HSG248 – Asbestos: The Analysts’ Guide

Results are subject to robust internal quality control
-
Performance is regularly assessed via independent proficiency testing (AIMS)
Choosing a UKAS accredited laboratory is widely recognised as best practice when assessing materials for asbestos under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
What is asbestos bulk analysis?
Asbestos bulk analysis is the laboratory process used to determine:
-
Whether asbestos is present in a suspect material sample; and
-
If present, which asbestos type(s) (e.g. chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite) it contains.
Typical materials submitted for bulk analysis include:
-
Ceiling and wall boards (AIB, textured coatings)
-
Pipe lagging and thermal insulation
-
Floor tiles and bitumen adhesives
-
Cement products (roof sheets, soffits, flues, gutters)
-
Roofing felts and mastics
-
Gaskets, ropes and fabrics
Analysis is carried out in accordance with HSE guidance HSG248 – Asbestos: The Analysts’ Guide, using established microscopy techniques and rigorous quality assurance procedures.

What will my asbestos bulk analysis report include?
Your asbestos bulk analysis certificate / report will clearly identify:
-
The sample ID and any location / description provided
-
Whether asbestos is detected or not detected in the sample
-
The type(s) of asbestos present, if detected (e.g. chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite etc.)
-
Any non-asbestos fibres / materials noted
Where bulk analysis supports a wider asbestos survey, results are incorporated into the inspection report and asbestos register, helping you understand:
-
Which areas were inspected
-
Which materials are non-suspect
-
Where asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) have been identified and what types they contain
We can also provide standalone bulk analysis certificates where required – for example when contractors or clients simply need to confirm whether specific suspect materials contain asbestos.
Fast asbestos sample testing turnaround times
We understand that asbestos results are often required quickly to keep projects moving and to control risk.
We offer a range of turnaround options (subject to capacity):

Frequently asked questions about asbestos bulk analysis
Our Accredited Testing Services
Thank you very much for the air sampling results – and please accept our grateful thanks for resolving this issue so quickly and for the promptness of the report.
Your analyst, Lee, was very helpful and his suggestions and advice appreciated.
We would have no hesitation in recommending The Testing Lab and will be in touch soon with regards arrangements for a full asbestos survey for the rest of the site.
TTL have been working directly as my analyst for the last 12 months on a very complex asbestos removal scheme, they have achieved all of their KPI’s without fail and on a number of occasions surpassed their SLA in acting for us on planning issues associated with the demolition in regard to contamination which cannot be removed as part of the normal sequence of operation.
There reports are always issued within timescales and they have policed the reports by the Licensed asbestos contractor faultlessly sometimes in very difficult circumstances.
