The risk assessment is the first part of a water management policy which creates the written scheme along with procedures in order to fulfil the clients responsibilities.
The first part of the risk assessment is to determine the ‘vulnerability’ of the occupants. This will help determine the frequency of monitoring and further assessments.
The second part is to declare in writing who is the duty holder, responsible person and deputies along with contact details. This is needed so that should a problem occur the authorities can go straight to the individual in order to rectify any would be contamination of local or site water systems.
The third part visits the complete site and carries out risk assessments to individual assets and this forms the main body of the risk assessment. This stage takes into account previous risk assessments and the information from within the site Water Log Book. It is not impossible but it is not recommended to try creating a water management policy with management procedures without knowing what you are managing so a risk assessment is a ‘first step’ which takes into account all aspects from temperature through to condition and will produce a comprehensive list of assets to manage going forward.
The 3 systems you can expect to see reported on within the risk assessment are domestic water systems, cooling tower systems, closed circuit systems plus any further appliances.
For clarification, a Domestic Water System is not restricted to dwellings. The term refers to hot and cold water systems in any building and can be found within industrial and commercial buildings as well as dwellings.
